Me included. The thaw has finally started, with a nice slow melt. I've had to chop thru some thick ice to divert the water away from the house & the garage and it made me think of a project I did last fall.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Waterproofing the Michigan House deck. Yeah - that kind of a Winter weekend!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Started with the center star.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T6hRPGusMNc/YCyFAKbUTeI/AAAAAAAAaXY/h_fRQB01BPwV3b4ONWDbHZeY3w2ftTvngCLcBGAsYHQ/s362/20210213_191946%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="352" data-original-width="362" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T6hRPGusMNc/YCyFAKbUTeI/AAAAAAAAaXY/h_fRQB01BPwV3b4ONWDbHZeY3w2ftTvngCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210213_191946%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The triangle corners underway.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XB5MDHQVbgY/YCyFHiyfgqI/AAAAAAAAaXc/GWlDYpUCm6gj83I6NO2bewLIK1JXzIaXACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20210213_191946.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XB5MDHQVbgY/YCyFHiyfgqI/AAAAAAAAaXc/GWlDYpUCm6gj83I6NO2bewLIK1JXzIaXACLcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/20210213_191946.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Notice the difference between the first coat of green and the final coat with the blue shading blended to the second coat of green. So, I purchased two of these gaming chairs. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EBjgKo0_gHw/YCSimU8jocI/AAAAAAAAaSU/h9VD2O8nwfcVLk0uH4rxSAZetwZQEjV4gCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20210210_145035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EBjgKo0_gHw/YCSimU8jocI/AAAAAAAAaSU/h9VD2O8nwfcVLk0uH4rxSAZetwZQEjV4gCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210210_145035.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">While they are a vast improvement over the previous chairs, little did I know that the problems I was experiencing ran deeper. Much deeper - into my hips muscles, primarily the piriformis, and sciatic nerves. Yikes!</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sTYRSdlHt5s/YCSkYsyOCvI/AAAAAAAAaSo/osQT4oaZuqsR8Og8ti1rYpWUy7CQly_PgCLcBGAsYHQ/s899/piriformis.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="899" data-original-width="728" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sTYRSdlHt5s/YCSkYsyOCvI/AAAAAAAAaSo/osQT4oaZuqsR8Og8ti1rYpWUy7CQly_PgCLcBGAsYHQ/w259-h320/piriformis.png" width="259" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">My job entails a lot of sitting. Making matters worse is the fact I tend to sit crooked, and stay in one position for too long. All of which is really under my control. It got to the point that I can't sleep on my side without the lower back, hips and leg nerves going crazy. I've been going to physical therapy twice a week for about a month now, stretching and strengthening my hip muscles, and using medication to deal with the nerve pain and inflammation. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VrTwlsWlzS0/YCSmmn0BC1I/AAAAAAAAaS0/qjwLGZEHidUSkoiPYWiD0hFqMcd3i2dsgCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/seated-piriformis-stretch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="633" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VrTwlsWlzS0/YCSmmn0BC1I/AAAAAAAAaS0/qjwLGZEHidUSkoiPYWiD0hFqMcd3i2dsgCLcBGAsYHQ/w395-h400/seated-piriformis-stretch.jpg" width="395" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Last fall, I also discovered quilter recommendations about saddle stools for sitting while sewing. Saddle stools are commonly used by dental techs, nail salons, etc. Of course, I didn't think much about it as I had just bought the two big chairs. My worsening hip pain made me think twice about the saddle stool. I had researched possible options and saved them in my Amazon wish list. Last week, I pulled the trigger.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u9SCiUjRvDc/YCSjKiFXSSI/AAAAAAAAaSg/a7Ns-lEi-xU44HVKjGBeAJVo2O3Acih0wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1517/20210210_145028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1517" data-original-width="866" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u9SCiUjRvDc/YCSjKiFXSSI/AAAAAAAAaSg/a7Ns-lEi-xU44HVKjGBeAJVo2O3Acih0wCLcBGAsYHQ/w366-h640/20210210_145028.jpg" width="366" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">And here is the new addition to my Studio/ work from home office. I wanted the sapphire blue one but it wasn't available, so aqua it is! Helping my posture and my body is more important than color. Supposedly, it takes a few days for you to adjust to sitting on the saddle stool for several hours as hip and thigh muscles stretch out. Just what I want! When you sit on it, you are actually sitting on your seat bones, very similar to sitting in a saddle while riding a horse. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">And speaking of riding a horse, I haven't in almost a month. The last time I rode, there was some very scary snow sliding off the indoor arena roof which resulted in Stormy & I parting company. I landed mostly on my butt. Thankfully, I always wear a helmet and Stormy didn't step on me. Unfortunately, my tailbone took some of the impact. It's still sore. It will heal but it takes a ridiculously long time. This injury added to the hip/sciatic nerve issue. Oh Joy! I'm really thankful this happened now while the weather is too cold to ride.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"> With any luck, I'll be in better shape all the way around when I get back to riding. I'm making a point of getting out of my chair at least once an hour & moving! I'll let you know how the saddle stool chair works after a few weeks use.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R9sRiojH2do/YCSiKvysVOI/AAAAAAAAaSI/-1caYtoeJ90X3NkhfFf4ltzy69s2leRXQCLcBGAsYHQ/s200/1%2Bcherry%2Bsignature%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="75" data-original-width="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R9sRiojH2do/YCSiKvysVOI/AAAAAAAAaSI/-1caYtoeJ90X3NkhfFf4ltzy69s2leRXQCLcBGAsYHQ/s0/1%2Bcherry%2Bsignature%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p>Cherryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07289245331760170581noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648260774274583297.post-88907537931194999952021-02-12T07:00:00.000-06:002021-02-12T07:00:03.299-06:00Slow Painting Progress<p> <span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The new painting project went from this</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-an3eBXWFEOA/YCSYhNMt99I/AAAAAAAAaRY/4agOESQ322gxCFYB-Z7UgJBChFTFOE2JwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20210130_152049.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-an3eBXWFEOA/YCSYhNMt99I/AAAAAAAAaRY/4agOESQ322gxCFYB-Z7UgJBChFTFOE2JwCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210130_152049.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">through a light sanding, courtesy of W, which I thought I took a picture of but didn't, to this.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EMtTtFi4quQ/YCSZX6JOrKI/AAAAAAAAaRo/n05drieopqgx74N_ciNBn1BFzVbjH_ufQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1378/20210210_132943.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1378" data-original-width="1194" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EMtTtFi4quQ/YCSZX6JOrKI/AAAAAAAAaRo/n05drieopqgx74N_ciNBn1BFzVbjH_ufQCLcBGAsYHQ/w346-h400/20210210_132943.jpg" width="346" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">It pretty much matches the same state as the coloring cartoons. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KlnvE55A5MU/YCSZsH7z_kI/AAAAAAAAaRw/IBLVkBcGJeUuE8soP5Ki-TxMDMlZhq5hgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210131_190310.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KlnvE55A5MU/YCSZsH7z_kI/AAAAAAAAaRw/IBLVkBcGJeUuE8soP5Ki-TxMDMlZhq5hgCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210131_190310.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">A clean blank slate. The room does not have an overhead light nor a ceiling fan with a light. For years, I made do with two small mismatched lamps. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rv8Du7yavAQ/YCCWVtfY9cI/AAAAAAAAaP4/YRv6ZJ5QwjAd4-14pHOqG4Kcc1YtR_5XACLcBGAsYHQ/s996/old%2Blamps.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="996" data-original-width="915" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rv8Du7yavAQ/YCCWVtfY9cI/AAAAAAAAaP4/YRv6ZJ5QwjAd4-14pHOqG4Kcc1YtR_5XACLcBGAsYHQ/w368-h400/old%2Blamps.jpg" width="368" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">I never loved them. I like things changed to suit my style. Stoves included.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">When I needed a new space heater for the Studio, I wanted something with style, not just an industrial metal box. So we found this. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8d9caki7rkU/YB3-3nJ209I/AAAAAAAAaNI/eeJKTkE_XdMSwWQZnxS6WNJVel_LU0RAwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20210117_070552.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8d9caki7rkU/YB3-3nJ209I/AAAAAAAAaNI/eeJKTkE_XdMSwWQZnxS6WNJVel_LU0RAwCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210117_070552.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">It was available in colors by special order at the time, for an extra charge. We weren't exactly flush with cash at the time so I figured basic black would be fine, as I could always jazz it up myself.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Fast forward to the Studio getting blue on the walls and the time had finally arrived to tackle the Stove Makeover. At first, I thought I'd paint it all solid blue but half way thru, I changed my mind and let it be two-toned. </span></p><p></p><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4wrXzap6_vs/YB3_Utm76MI/AAAAAAAAaNY/9s_OeWol9qcSGvSVB90knUuoy44f3gksQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20210117_100724.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4wrXzap6_vs/YB3_Utm76MI/AAAAAAAAaNY/9s_OeWol9qcSGvSVB90knUuoy44f3gksQCLcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/20210117_100724.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_1bN-dQGwxQ/YB3_UsyU1XI/AAAAAAAAaNU/0hC0kGuIB4YuXSDrVONhz009D-5gDbPGwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20210117_100458.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_1bN-dQGwxQ/YB3_UsyU1XI/AAAAAAAAaNU/0hC0kGuIB4YuXSDrVONhz009D-5gDbPGwCLcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/20210117_100458.jpg" width="480" /></a></span></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">It's several shades darker than the walls but the same blue family. Another Furniture Finds? How much more does she need? What on earth have they been using all this time - orange boxes & milk crates?</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The Shopping Maven struck again. I was minding my own business, chatting with the manager of the Thrift Shop about the best time to bring in some of our large pieces to release into the Universe when I saw something. I swear I was simply standing there. Okay - looking, but not really shopping. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The TV stand at the Michigan House is a hold over from the 70's. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BGQ42rdJyWg/YB3yWn-F_-I/AAAAAAAAaMg/7akF43bMcs4ewxaQCV0gdrSv9owaX_zLACLcBGAsYHQ/s1101/20200921_200117.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="753" data-original-width="1101" height="438" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BGQ42rdJyWg/YB3yWn-F_-I/AAAAAAAAaMg/7akF43bMcs4ewxaQCV0gdrSv9owaX_zLACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h438/20200921_200117.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">It had really seen better days considering it was glass & particle board. W had already modified it once to safely hold the 43 inch tv, by adding the longer plywood top.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">But then I saw this and knew it was just the ticket. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t0eSkvnoSNo/YB3zRFvrzVI/AAAAAAAAaM4/gZwxcicKil0T8yq5BGTg8BTZkyfQxyI8gCLcBGAsYHQ/s643/tv%2Bstand%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="478" data-original-width="643" height="297" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t0eSkvnoSNo/YB3zRFvrzVI/AAAAAAAAaM4/gZwxcicKil0T8yq5BGTg8BTZkyfQxyI8gCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h297/tv%2Bstand%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">It would definitely fit the style & space. W was convince there would be no way on earth I would be able to manage it on my own, getting it out of the van & into the house. But where there's a will, there's a way. I admit I had to get creative using what I had but I got it in place.</span></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TWAZtBQhiAM/YB3yvfjTbMI/AAAAAAAAaMs/g0g3HZU_oF84n71T1AFIkuLKyVUcF2giACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/tv%2Bstand.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TWAZtBQhiAM/YB3yvfjTbMI/AAAAAAAAaMs/g0g3HZU_oF84n71T1AFIkuLKyVUcF2giACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/tv%2Bstand.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bJPJTE2KeJE/YB3yvf2CCPI/AAAAAAAAaMw/tbB9CSIsxQoHqYbF660GaI5rCp-R9RDjgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/tv%2Bstand%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bJPJTE2KeJE/YB3yvf2CCPI/AAAAAAAAaMw/tbB9CSIsxQoHqYbF660GaI5rCp-R9RDjgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/tv%2Bstand%2B2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">And I'm glad I did! A 24 hour snow event. It was a heavy, wet snow requiring a few shoveling sessions throughout the day. We had about 9-10 inches come down.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">In between, I worked on painting the last wall of the Studio. YAY!! In order to get this stretch of wall done, I had to move the tall cherry bookcase, the old tool chest, the TV stand, and the litterbox tote. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YahRfdw6o1Y/YBddZjpa8wI/AAAAAAAAaKQ/_q_ndXRyxlkyz8NSkDWW3UQpzOTzTi6gwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20210131_160722.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YahRfdw6o1Y/YBddZjpa8wI/AAAAAAAAaKQ/_q_ndXRyxlkyz8NSkDWW3UQpzOTzTi6gwCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210131_160722.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Now that the painting is done, I have to figure out where I'm putting the furniture back in place, trying to optimize the space. The Studio would greatly benefit this room being 3 feet wider and 3 feet longer, at a minimum. Not happening, but a girl can dream, can't she?! The paint is not yet dry here.</span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a8ic9o5v_sI/YBdd4QZluNI/AAAAAAAAaKg/qXnpL2VqVIQiLlou-1dwbDrrdI2WE0ZggCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20210131_162405.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a8ic9o5v_sI/YBdd4QZluNI/AAAAAAAAaKg/qXnpL2VqVIQiLlou-1dwbDrrdI2WE0ZggCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210131_162405.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Still loving the color. Maybe even a bit more since the painting is done. Oh sure, the baseboards have a few spots needing touch up yet but I'm calling this project done! Once I get the final furniture placement, I will be able to (at last!) lay down the new rug. What's really cool is how the cherry wood and the drapes and the Michigan map all pop against the wall color. Picture of that later.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Next project is refinishing a new wall art piece. I'm glad I held off on this until I had the wall color decided. A few months ago, I found this at the thrift shop in town. It cost all of $12.00. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2cmkB7t2RR8/YBdeJ5Z-3SI/AAAAAAAAaKo/Dr-69qTT734DEPXth5GXbOgCCbc26HQNQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20210130_152049.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2cmkB7t2RR8/YBdeJ5Z-3SI/AAAAAAAAaKo/Dr-69qTT734DEPXth5GXbOgCCbc26HQNQCLcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/20210130_152049.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">As you can see the colors are clearly dated and not my palette. It was nice to finally kick back and have time to type this post. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">On Monday, Cherrywood Fabrics announced the Finalists for the Diana Challenge. I was THRILLED to have the only quilt that I finished in 2020 on the list! The deadline for entries was 11:59 pm CST on December 31, 2020. I put the last stitch in the binding at 4:00 pm CST! </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">We all know I tend to work best (?) under a deadline and this was no different. I almost didn't even do this project but as I looked back at a year of projects, with no quilt finishes. On Sunday, December 27th, this is what I had.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sfyIHkDNJoc/YBN88sGtuwI/AAAAAAAAaFs/jAmfyOIDmLAqCv9jKYst3WXyimv61DlCQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/cartoon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1918" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sfyIHkDNJoc/YBN88sGtuwI/AAAAAAAAaFs/jAmfyOIDmLAqCv9jKYst3WXyimv61DlCQCLcBGAsYHQ/w375-h400/cartoon.jpg" width="375" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Yep - that's it. A cartoon drawing. And a traced copy of it, which I promptly cut into a pile a weirdly shaped paper bits with a piece code on each one. The paper bits were subdivisions of each petal. What I failed to do was transfer the subdivision lines to the master drawing. Or the piece code to the cut fabric pieces. ARGH! It became more of a puzzle to put together than it needed to be. Oh, and I also didn't do a full color drawing to check color placement. NOT one of my finest design moments! LOL!</span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Like any good quilter, you Just. Keep. Going. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">It helped that I was off work so I could work thru the project. The colors for the challenge were 3 shades of pink, with white as the neutral. White? White. As in, you need to use it & keep it pristine. That, in and of itself, was a challenge. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x5LlXdQAD00/YBN-Hsj9R2I/AAAAAAAAaF8/QO8QGxSJ1AIZQS-DFas7-OP9cbqDOIlHwCLcBGAsYHQ/s579/DI.Challenge%252BBundle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="425" data-original-width="579" height="294" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x5LlXdQAD00/YBN-Hsj9R2I/AAAAAAAAaF8/QO8QGxSJ1AIZQS-DFas7-OP9cbqDOIlHwCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h294/DI.Challenge%252BBundle.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large; text-align: left;">I'm happy with how it turned out. The center jewel has a layer of thick-ish, firm sew in interfacing and no batting. The rest of the rose has two layers of batting to add extra dimension, while the corners only have one layer of batting. </span></div><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z5U9m314Rfs/YBN-ZdgKoyI/AAAAAAAAaGE/kaX4gy-XruYIveNrMvfH5q5XBVUoo9twgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Diana%2BFull%2BVIew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1919" data-original-width="2048" height="600" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z5U9m314Rfs/YBN-ZdgKoyI/AAAAAAAAaGE/kaX4gy-XruYIveNrMvfH5q5XBVUoo9twgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h600/Diana%2BFull%2BVIew.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">There is minimal quilting on this piece. I'm good with that. It's a finish and by the time this post posts, the quilt will be on it's way to Minnesota for judging. Being a Finalist is prize enough for me.</span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_tSs6W0Ce4A/YBN8XX8F2RI/AAAAAAAAaFk/RUCIkMQ-prsBN1FM66caDbZY4Aa5iVC9ACLcBGAsYHQ/s200/1%2Bcherry%2Bsignature%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="75" data-original-width="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_tSs6W0Ce4A/YBN8XX8F2RI/AAAAAAAAaFk/RUCIkMQ-prsBN1FM66caDbZY4Aa5iVC9ACLcBGAsYHQ/s0/1%2Bcherry%2Bsignature%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p>Cherryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07289245331760170581noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648260774274583297.post-49689935591484232852021-01-18T07:00:00.001-06:002021-01-18T07:00:04.861-06:00Studio Style!<p> <span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Back on my post from January 2nd, one of the pictures showed a braided rug in front of my new-to-me bookcase. I alluded that this rug would figure into some future posts. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3lTr3CfMU1o/X_-64zxYVNI/AAAAAAAAZ4o/shzZMBeOGcgD_nAlEZn-xMUBfERkW2FEwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/cherry%2Bbookcase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3lTr3CfMU1o/X_-64zxYVNI/AAAAAAAAZ4o/shzZMBeOGcgD_nAlEZn-xMUBfERkW2FEwCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/cherry%2Bbookcase.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">This is one of those posts. That little rug was a Christmas gift from W several years ago. I LOVE the greens & blues all woven together in it. I found it on Overstock at a good price. Since I loved it so much, I shopped around for a larger size of the same kind.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Rude awakening - Larger size braided rugs cost a LOT more than the small sizes. Like weirdly, exponentially more. I could not justify that kind of cash back then, but I never really forgot about it. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Recently, a friend J, who moved to northern Minnesota, shared her plan to tackle her sewing studio space asking for input on wall paint color. That got me to thinking. Me thinking is a very dangerous thing!</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Back in 2015, I whitewashed the wood beams and shiplap walls in the studio. Then I painted the walls a light green. I always felt the green was a bit too light and a bit too yellow. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-15HL5xzeA9E/X_-9vGZvqsI/AAAAAAAAZ5E/BsFySJKivKIK14IR2jgbfYkyHzwksE26gCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/pale%2Bwall%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1781" data-original-width="2048" height="348" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-15HL5xzeA9E/X_-9vGZvqsI/AAAAAAAAZ5E/BsFySJKivKIK14IR2jgbfYkyHzwksE26gCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h348/pale%2Bwall%2B2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">You see where this is going right? Yeah, me too!</span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Spending time in this space working remotely is making my Home Improvement Gene kick in. The wrong green walls are making me twitch. The new furniture has already improved the layout and storage situation, so tackling the next project on the Studio list is imminent. The question becomes which green? </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">That little rug is the inspiration. Not only for the wall color but also for another element to tie the space together. YEP! Another braided rug. It's very own big brother oval rug. Some diligent searching on the Interwebs turned up a sale, which when combined with a gift card, resulted in a package being delivered to the front porch. </span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qRzVkmGxv-8/X_-7VzsBBnI/AAAAAAAAZ4w/q38zjCaBVKwddVPwhCjLOqa1UCvbkdGIwCLcBGAsYHQ/s558/rug.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="558" data-original-width="303" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qRzVkmGxv-8/X_-7VzsBBnI/AAAAAAAAZ4w/q38zjCaBVKwddVPwhCjLOqa1UCvbkdGIwCLcBGAsYHQ/w348-h640/rug.JPG" width="348" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Measures 5 foot by 8 foot</span></td></tr></tbody></table><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;"></span></p><div style="text-align: justify;">It originally wasn't suppose to arrive until January 23rd but it showed up back on January 8th. So not ready to lay it down, considering the walls need to be tackled first but it's here! And I'm thrilled! </div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">I can't wait to get it in place. I started the Michigan House ceiling painting in the hallway and notice how dark the globe ceiling fixture base was. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vmGr1vluk4w/X_-ei4xhw0I/AAAAAAAAZ3E/-SGP8b_gizsS3Glg_bvkeWxhwfae6PA6gCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200606_151532.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vmGr1vluk4w/X_-ei4xhw0I/AAAAAAAAZ3E/-SGP8b_gizsS3Glg_bvkeWxhwfae6PA6gCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20200606_151532.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">Particularly since the ceiling was getting a lovely fresh white (2) coats of paint. Probably a good idea to take down the white glass globe, wash it and paint out the base so it visually blends into the ceiling. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Oh, and there's another globe fixture in the front entry way. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lI6j6bv0jK4/X_-e48L_ZJI/AAAAAAAAZ3o/R40CL_b9O28EH_xCjNN_Yxts6GpxxXgkgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200606_151541.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1260" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lI6j6bv0jK4/X_-e48L_ZJI/AAAAAAAAZ3o/R40CL_b9O28EH_xCjNN_Yxts6GpxxXgkgCLcBGAsYHQ/w246-h400/20200606_151541.jpg" width="246" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">And, I bet if there's one at the front door, there's most likely one by the back door. Yep. </span><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">And another in the kitchen between the stove and fridge. </span><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">Okay - come on, how many of these flipping globe fixtures are there in this house? I had never really paid attention to them before. </span><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">Four, five? Half a dozen? NO! There aren't just on the ceilings, they're on the walls, too! And the answer is TEN! </span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OcKGDdRI0_U/X_-fyTFmiCI/AAAAAAAAZ34/qGwcW5fM3QkZfFvMKA9tKqpBrKTkjqw7gCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200606_121030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OcKGDdRI0_U/X_-fyTFmiCI/AAAAAAAAZ34/qGwcW5fM3QkZfFvMKA9tKqpBrKTkjqw7gCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h480/20200606_121030.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">Ten globes removed, washed & dried. Ten light fixture bases painted white - yes, two coats! And 30! tiny screw heads painted. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">End result? Shining bright lights all over the house. Love the way the globe and fixture base just blend away into the ceiling rather than sticking out like a dark smudge.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c60mVIgbNtY/X_-gOp50p1I/AAAAAAAAZ4E/a4Yjy2OIs7wbno7DAIaZ7rhhj1L_WbK9QCLcBGAsYHQ/s2557/20200607_104650.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2557" data-original-width="1230" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c60mVIgbNtY/X_-gOp50p1I/AAAAAAAAZ4E/a4Yjy2OIs7wbno7DAIaZ7rhhj1L_WbK9QCLcBGAsYHQ/w308-h640/20200607_104650.jpg" width="308" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7vwGU7lBFjA/X_-gOv42_oI/AAAAAAAAZ4A/3zwH48Spi74whL-oA9vmCNjtWoO-jpBMQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200607_122156.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2019" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7vwGU7lBFjA/X_-gOv42_oI/AAAAAAAAZ4A/3zwH48Spi74whL-oA9vmCNjtWoO-jpBMQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200607_122156.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">Adding a clean look to the bathroom walls, as well. I considered using it for the Studio sliding glass doors.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g-sYwX6uquk/X_aMxuhMY2I/AAAAAAAAZvA/Vdylg2JhTygYMQcmMZbY_W7CTV4UpD1KgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200707_161456.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g-sYwX6uquk/X_aMxuhMY2I/AAAAAAAAZvA/Vdylg2JhTygYMQcmMZbY_W7CTV4UpD1KgCLcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/20200707_161456.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tgKr6mZRK7Q/X_aMxVqtzUI/AAAAAAAAZu8/90bqq_z2VsctCbhGZ9yawglwGDyl5G_6QCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200707_161450.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tgKr6mZRK7Q/X_aMxVqtzUI/AAAAAAAAZu8/90bqq_z2VsctCbhGZ9yawglwGDyl5G_6QCLcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/20200707_161450.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">Not quite the look I was going for, as full door panels would have been too busy for that space. But I LOVED the fabric and knew it was just a matter of time before I found a use for it. It was a simple matter of walking to the very next room.</span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fQuw2eYS_BQ/X_aNOGQVVvI/AAAAAAAAZvM/ygZU78NUfg4zk6wGIOg1QWTX270TMbVJQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/valance.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fQuw2eYS_BQ/X_aNOGQVVvI/AAAAAAAAZvM/ygZU78NUfg4zk6wGIOg1QWTX270TMbVJQCLcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/valance.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: xx-large;">I didn't realize until I looked at this picture that the colors match my Caribbean Solstice quilt. And, YES, believe it or not, there are more furniture stories to share. So finishings it is!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Finishings, what are finishings? Items that are finished or refinished or items that finish a room, are all finishings. Last year, many of my projects fell into that category so I'm going to share them with you over the course of the next few weeks or months.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Mirror, mirror on the...deck railing?? </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Yep! The Michigan House Makeover - the project that spawned many, many sub-projects. These are the original medicine cabinet mirrored doors. Dark antiqued dark gold. Notice they match the base of the light fixture - ick - but that's another story for another post.</span></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gdKciax-PSg/X_Z4J8zvNjI/AAAAAAAAZto/XKhe7KtQqg0wBDqiDrr4_QGrfooD0eAsgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200606_121217.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gdKciax-PSg/X_Z4J8zvNjI/AAAAAAAAZto/XKhe7KtQqg0wBDqiDrr4_QGrfooD0eAsgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h480/20200606_121217.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;"><p>Cleaning wasn't enough - they cried out for a facelift. And that couldn't happen in situ. I wrestled them off the long piano hinges, covered the glass , staged them on the deck railing and hit them with a few coats of metallic champagne mist gold.</p></span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FSx6WzJoWzQ/X_Z9AiGnPmI/AAAAAAAAZuk/fB5EWbmlWfw_5Lhj16Dc7Xf0f69xIOVSACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200607_102207.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1128" data-original-width="2048" height="352" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FSx6WzJoWzQ/X_Z9AiGnPmI/AAAAAAAAZuk/fB5EWbmlWfw_5Lhj16Dc7Xf0f69xIOVSACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h352/20200607_102207.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large; text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large; text-align: left;">The difference was night and day. </span></div><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XsQP2qRioqE/X_Z5EsvxR3I/AAAAAAAAZt4/J420_9PuI2UazeUw9NHutLF4IR4TR65-ACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200607_102757.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1331" data-original-width="2048" height="416" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XsQP2qRioqE/X_Z5EsvxR3I/AAAAAAAAZt4/J420_9PuI2UazeUw9NHutLF4IR4TR65-ACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h416/20200607_102757.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">The newly painted doors reinstalled.</span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jcIGrRg_vZc/X_Z8HFWf-VI/AAAAAAAAZuU/-9UguUxYuCMuYGLETYZ13E4Oql1_6-FCACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200607_122156.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2019" data-original-width="2048" height="630" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jcIGrRg_vZc/X_Z8HFWf-VI/AAAAAAAAZuU/-9UguUxYuCMuYGLETYZ13E4Oql1_6-FCACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h630/20200607_122156.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">Love the lighter feel they bring to the bathrooms. But I came home at the end of August for about a month, so my brother, M, could go up & do a few things out of my reach - literally. As he had been diagnosed as an asymptomatic COVID-19 carrier earlier in the summer, our paths could not cross! So his part of the projects were carefully detailed in lists, while I was back at home creating wreaking havoc on my Studio/Home Office and Bedroom. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The need for more useful (read: More Storage) furniture in both rooms was great and I was determined to keep the budget small. The downstairs bedroom is small, only fitting a full size bed. The old RR armoire was not configured well and it had a rounded top, which was not good balancing the tv on top of it. It had to go. Along with the small nightstand, the wire rack that went over the nightstand and the twin of the DVD cabinet that was in the Studio.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jgZltIriEqQ/X-_jTP_wdnI/AAAAAAAAZq0/iUgVIM69mMQlip6jbUni6OJy1mpPC8YgwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/dvd%2Bcase.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jgZltIriEqQ/X-_jTP_wdnI/AAAAAAAAZq0/iUgVIM69mMQlip6jbUni6OJy1mpPC8YgwCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/dvd%2Bcase.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">I used the twin of this DVD cabinet for books in the bedroom.</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The little chest of drawer stayed, moved across the room to the wall where the nightstand was and got new knobs. It's amazing how changing the hardware changes the whole look of the chest.</span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qewpIWFh-KY/X-_jyHFiHLI/AAAAAAAAZq8/UaaC7mmVmFcgJdXRfDEbwHq26M3wdrKGgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/new%2Bknobs.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qewpIWFh-KY/X-_jyHFiHLI/AAAAAAAAZq8/UaaC7mmVmFcgJdXRfDEbwHq26M3wdrKGgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/new%2Bknobs.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">The old white knobs were replaced by the oil-rubbed bronze finish knobs</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">That opened up the far wall for a few new pieces. The problem was that the dimensions would fit two highboy dressers, not a matching dresser & chest of drawers. All my hunting and I couldn't find two highboys. What's a girl to do? Luck had me finding this gorgeous Thomasville armoire. </span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YFZfKh6q_9g/X-_klSYA3ZI/AAAAAAAAZrM/IyoFZwaXAg08GUeNqKV09ozagZk_zsdMQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1317/amoire.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1317" data-original-width="957" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YFZfKh6q_9g/X-_klSYA3ZI/AAAAAAAAZrM/IyoFZwaXAg08GUeNqKV09ozagZk_zsdMQCLcBGAsYHQ/w466-h640/amoire.jpg" width="466" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Still at the resale shop</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large; text-align: justify;">Used, at a charity resale shop and marked down! W was instrumental is securing this piece, as I had to work. He had to shoo away 3 separate other customers who were eyeballing it before the shop lady could tag it as sold - to him! It had been at the shop for almost 4 weeks and hadn't sold, so the price was reduced to $25! We ended up wrestling this piece home ourselves, as the delivery fee would have been $95. Um, thanks but no, we did it ourselves. </span></div><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">It not only fit in the bedroom, I still had room for another piece. I knew I'd never find its twin and I needed some deep drawer storage for clothes. In my thrift shop furniture hunting, I ran across oak horizontal filing cabinets. Two of them, not quite identical, at two different shops. W to the rescue again! He retrieved both of them, once I realized they would fit the space, stack on top of each other & give me the much needed storage! </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NjGsc-Mz25Y/X-_lUQYnv_I/AAAAAAAAZrU/fmo_dUnBigU-B6xr6NursRqL3_pTt7QFwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/bed%2Bfile.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NjGsc-Mz25Y/X-_lUQYnv_I/AAAAAAAAZrU/fmo_dUnBigU-B6xr6NursRqL3_pTt7QFwCLcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/bed%2Bfile.jpg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">The ever so slightly smaller filing cabinet on top, with gripper pads to keep it in place!</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The cost for both $57.50. SCORE! Deep drawers and a perfect spot for the tv on top. Not to mention, the wood finish color on the filing cabinets matched the armoire fairly closely. These three pieces tripled my storage space vs. the old RR armoire, in less than twice the space!!! </span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Now that we had the furniture in place, it was time to purge clothes, books, and belongings, as well as figuring out what to house where. I'm still working on that! It's slow going, as I spent most of October back in Michigan, and I've moved some things around a few times. Eventually, everything will find its proper place - either here or with someone else.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CJGV_lcOHCs/X-_msmwFTrI/AAAAAAAAZrg/oBhH0tVLB4wXsS3PTcTbiurQjLLI3bVcgCLcBGAsYHQ/s200/1%2Bcherry%2Bsignature%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="75" data-original-width="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CJGV_lcOHCs/X-_msmwFTrI/AAAAAAAAZrg/oBhH0tVLB4wXsS3PTcTbiurQjLLI3bVcgCLcBGAsYHQ/s0/1%2Bcherry%2Bsignature%2B-%2BCopy.jpg" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><br /></span><p></p>Cherryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07289245331760170581noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648260774274583297.post-72338840226542199032021-01-02T07:00:00.007-06:002021-01-03T22:01:37.302-06:00Onward Into 2021!<p style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Onward we go into 2021, fingers crossed, resolve steeled, with a determined glint in our eye that this year will be better than last year, while remaining cautious, careful and considerate of others.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">I'll be sharing some current projects and update you on some old projects. And then there's a future one or two percolating, as well. So many things did get accomplished last year - The Year of the Projects! - both at home & in Michigan. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The current house project is my Studio/Home Office redo, which started back in August and is still going strong. It's being done in conjunction with a larger, ever ongoing purging of items that are needed elsewhere in the Universe. The redo has required the addition of some larger, more useful storage furniture. Of course, knowing me like you do, you know I don't run out & buy new. Half the fun of the room redo is hunting down just the right used piece and rehoming it. Thrift shops, estate sales, and moving sales are the best! It make take a bit longer but I'm just a wee bit persistent, to say the least.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zWXkinJ7Wsc/X-_UgCrfGAI/AAAAAAAAZqQ/Jor7znAuYF8YQYmZeckm-Hr6kTY9k4qVwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/dvd%2Bcase.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zWXkinJ7Wsc/X-_UgCrfGAI/AAAAAAAAZqQ/Jor7znAuYF8YQYmZeckm-Hr6kTY9k4qVwCLcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/dvd%2Bcase.jpg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Odie has been helping with the Studio Redo</span></td></tr></tbody></table><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: x-large;">I sent this DVD cabinet out the door to make room for this full size cherry bookcase that I scored right in town at the thrift shop that benefits women & children in peril. <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The Summer of (oh, So Many) Projects!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Let's jump to the Michigan House. Or what I somewhat fondly refer to as the Mother Lode of all of the 2020 Projects on my plate.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The Michigan House was put in it's place in 1983. Thirty-seven years ago we walked thru the front door for the very first time. Some things have changed over the intervening years - like the chocolate brown sculpted loop wall to wall to wall to wall carpeting getting ripped out & replaced, mostly by 16" square ceramic tile - and some things were stuck in the past.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Project #1 - the ceilings. All the ceilings in the house are acoustical panels and hadn't been touched since installed at the factory. We had a few water spots show up, which were addressed but nothing else had been done. My priority was to paint every inch of ceiling in the whole house! All 1425 square feet of the house ceilings. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">W and I grabbed two cans of regular Behr ceiling paint to get me started, along with gathering a few other supplies and off I went. In order to paint ceilings, one must move a few things out of the way. Like 20+ artificial silk plants & flower arrangements. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">UGH! I HATE those things. And yes, I can say that with some authority, as I spent 17 years working in the floral industry. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">They are nothing more than dust catchers in this house & they were banished to the garage. The only reason they didn't go straight into the garbage bin is that we don't have trash removal service out there since we're not out there year round. A friend let's us drop of any trash we have at her house. The haul of silk arrangements would have filled her bins 4 times! </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Next, the two area rugs needed to go - out the door! Simply rolling them up would have meant shifting them around and I wanted a clear path. And they wanted a good washing & airing. And then ultimately replacing, when I got into a complete snit over them. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Back to painting. I started on the hallway ceiling (on the left in the picture below) on a Friday night after work. Can I just say right here what a blessing it is that I can work remote where ever I have Wi-Fi?! Anyway, here is the first of many square feet of ceiling. </span></div>

</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The interesting thing I noted was that the ceiling sucked up paint faster than I could roll it on. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Hmm, at this rate, I was going to need to readjust the coverage estimate. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">And upgrade to the Behr Ultra Paint & Primer in One ceiling paint. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">And plan on two coats. On. All. The. Ceilings. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">I didn't mind the cost of the paint, though needing 7 gallons to complete the project does give one a bit of a pang in the wallet. The time needed to roll two full coats, with drying time in between, was unexpected. There's the whole shift the furniture, cover everything in plastic, refill the paint tray, refill it again, open yet another can of paint time suck that really adds up. Not to mention that I couldn't get a handle on the coverage rate and the fact that the nearest Home Depot is 25 miles away and it's the middle of a pandemic. And yes, I was doing this in the evenings and on weekends, in the mornings before work and at lunch time. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Odie was with me every step of the way, rolling the open expanse and as I went up & down the ladder cutting in the edges. He only got 1 spot of paint on him! He was a great helper, staying well out of the way. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FhU2cyijNLs/Xx3C5ULknWI/AAAAAAAAX14/7aelydC4hN4jJIGU0srJn0Xz_DxaANc_wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200604_221327.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1454" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FhU2cyijNLs/Xx3C5ULknWI/AAAAAAAAX14/7aelydC4hN4jJIGU0srJn0Xz_DxaANc_wCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/20200604_221327.jpg" width="580" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">I did have another helper for a day. W came out over a weekend to paint along the center beam of the vaulted great room. No way was I going to even try tackle cutting in those edges at that height on a ladder, by myself in the house. Totally not safe! Besides, I'm 5' 2" short and he is 6' 4" tall. Do the math! It was a no-brainer. It took him less than an hour to do what I couldn't reach, with minimal effort. The rest of the time, he tackled a few other odd jobs that made good use of his height, strength and talent! I made him a steak dinner with pie & ice cream for dessert! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Here is the great room during it's 2020 facelift, with most of the painting done. Look at the light, bright, clean look!! Odie was happy that the plastic tarps had left the building. </span></div>

We are going to jump around like nobody's business.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Why?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Well, why not!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Let's jump back to June 2nd when I left you with a teaser on the next round of my Unity quilt - Pinwheel Stars!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I used both navy & cream for the background pieces, which created an entirely unexpected secondary pattern. Not what I was expecting but hey, what the heck, let's roll with it. I sure as heck wasn't remaking all the stars and I didn't have enough cream to even consider that option. Th</span><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">e cream fabric shortage is the reason I used the navy in the first place.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9HU7V11yGVo/XxZaQZU9PII/AAAAAAAAXww/dGjZbtaFhLMWnyhE9BZ6qgPc5v07-M4JgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200504_160642.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9HU7V11yGVo/XxZaQZU9PII/AAAAAAAAXww/dGjZbtaFhLMWnyhE9BZ6qgPc5v07-M4JgCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/20200504_160642.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">So okay, onward!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Make a bunch of them. Lay them out. See what you have.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LKve3lwtqrc/XxZavZuzQPI/AAAAAAAAXxA/mTmDBIBTZnIDvfq1EuIh7kkyuVFc6BYOwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200504_231216.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LKve3lwtqrc/XxZavZuzQPI/AAAAAAAAXxA/mTmDBIBTZnIDvfq1EuIh7kkyuVFc6BYOwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/20200504_231216.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-size: large;">So, do you see the stars or the secondary pattern that's emerging? </span><span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-size: large;">Let's make all of them & lay all of them out.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GnvM00vUUnE/XxZbWf-_DZI/AAAAAAAAXxI/ChtnPvxhSDwKPMfW_HAh50GjgfeFJIXqwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200505_152758.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1551" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GnvM00vUUnE/XxZbWf-_DZI/AAAAAAAAXxI/ChtnPvxhSDwKPMfW_HAh50GjgfeFJIXqwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/20200505_152758.jpg" width="620" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Now the stars seem to become the background and the background pieces emerge as the design. Interesting. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Okay - now attach them to something and see what happens.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7oW4jOtcEIY/XxZcDe2ep-I/AAAAAAAAXxQ/0HbinCTw9tcvebDEAp4fMa10ANxqItm6QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200505_162030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1452" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7oW4jOtcEIY/XxZcDe2ep-I/AAAAAAAAXxQ/0HbinCTw9tcvebDEAp4fMa10ANxqItm6QCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/20200505_162030.jpg" width="580" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Two sides on. And then the other two sides. I like the way this round looks like a rope twist.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ORFOJptFLAg/XxZcgZQgucI/AAAAAAAAXxY/NZgP41coMOgjO4dzpo1RP5ejpa5BDnnxACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200505_185725.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1433" data-original-width="1600" height="572" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ORFOJptFLAg/XxZcgZQgucI/AAAAAAAAXxY/NZgP41coMOgjO4dzpo1RP5ejpa5BDnnxACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/20200505_185725.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I like it even better with the narrow border added to frame the Pinwheel Star blocks.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VgPNSx3UF9Y/XxZchnZ61rI/AAAAAAAAXxc/oDVYtgOgi2M67Q6K3ByTOO_j5UlwVAP3wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200505_213905.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1499" data-original-width="1600" height="598" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VgPNSx3UF9Y/XxZchnZ61rI/AAAAAAAAXxc/oDVYtgOgi2M67Q6K3ByTOO_j5UlwVAP3wCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/20200505_213905.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The original design had a round that was only applied to the two ends, turning the design into a rectangle quilt instead of a square. Spoiler Alert - I didn't do that. I kept the my quilt layout a square.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Next time - The final round. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Hard to think that more than half the year is in the rearview mirror! July has provided some interesting challenges, not the least of which is my dad currently in ICU, with COVID-19 Pneumonia. He's been in there since June 30th and is stable, while we're taking things one day at a time.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">We had been taking every precaution but this virus is unstoppable and does not discriminate in it's victims. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Part of the precautions for my folks was that they were NOT allowed to go out to the Michigan House. Simply out of the question! At the beginning of all the shutdowns and all of April, no one went anywhere. The problem is that you can't ignore a property. The Michigan House needed to be checked on & opened up. Not to mention grass, weeds, bushes and trees don't stop growing, while leaves need raking.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">After much discussion with my DH, W, it was decided that I could go out at the beginning of May a full month later than the usual opening date. I filled up my gas tank at home, loaded every supply I needed from food & beverage to cleaning supplies and tools and set off. The main parameter was 'No Contact, No Impact', which meant I had no contact with persons or equipment and I did not impact any of the local resources. No gas stations, no neighbors, no grocery stores - nothing. And it worked!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Thankfully, the house was fine and the Spring opening went well, even if I did it all myself. I stayed a few days doing the basics. But houses being houses, it needed some extra attention. If 2020 wasn't going to be summer of dog shows, road trips and fairs, it can dang well can be the summer of projects! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I've made a few trips back, working remotely for my day job with some required weird hours, and working every spare minute - mornings, lunch hours, evenings & weekends on the house. Items are getting checked off, as more items are added! It's the proverbial, self-perpetuating project list! Most of them, I've done myself but a few required W's help out here. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I'll be sharing some project pics in upcoming posts but o</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">ne of the proudest moments was the refurbishment of this old house sign. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">It was bought and hung on the house 36 years ago. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">W took it down from the peak, sanded off years of weather beaten wear, and replaced the hardware. <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Soooooo much has been going on behind the scenes, even a bit of stitching but mostly a LOT of work, projects and chores. But yesterday was MY day. My day to relax. A WHOLE day to myself - no work, no chores, no timeline! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">And the first thing I did in the morning was to open a special delivery box.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XLNTfNk2aHE/Xws99FbLOfI/AAAAAAAAXlg/blmqD2HSzVgWLZquV0EOSxGD4pyK80bawCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200712_072244.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XLNTfNk2aHE/Xws99FbLOfI/AAAAAAAAXlg/blmqD2HSzVgWLZquV0EOSxGD4pyK80bawCLcBGAsYHQ/s400/20200712_072244.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">It wasn't empty of course but the contents needed sorting and cleaning.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rdmZhHMFH6M/XwtCTMOlu9I/AAAAAAAAXmM/8CaxQXDFFxoPjeZ-_iqypNQ38QngT6euQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200712_080711.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rdmZhHMFH6M/XwtCTMOlu9I/AAAAAAAAXmM/8CaxQXDFFxoPjeZ-_iqypNQ38QngT6euQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200712_080711.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">And resulted in pile of leather straps drying on several towels!! Actually it's a mix of biothane (pvc coated polyester webbing) </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">a</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">nd leather, with several stainless steel buckles and a few rings thrown in for good measure. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cq7hSv_VE-w/Xws_8GSJiLI/AAAAAAAAXl8/ZOYFu7XGXrYMm4PVOpTMHyt6Lqgw8XbTgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200712_100431.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cq7hSv_VE-w/Xws_8GSJiLI/AAAAAAAAXl8/ZOYFu7XGXrYMm4PVOpTMHyt6Lqgw8XbTgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200712_100431.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">What this really is, is a future adventure in horse training. More specifically, my goal is to train Stormy to drive. Him pulling a cart is a long way off but we can't start the journey without taking the first step. Literally, we both will be walking miles on the ground - just like this. </span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dxWLqS9O3A8/XwtEXLpkPRI/AAAAAAAAXmo/H84d-mAOpKYRteFjcN-c9afFZmyBMC3jwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Pam%2BBanner%2Bdriving.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="843" data-original-width="1278" height="420" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dxWLqS9O3A8/XwtEXLpkPRI/AAAAAAAAXmo/H84d-mAOpKYRteFjcN-c9afFZmyBMC3jwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/Pam%2BBanner%2Bdriving.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">P ground driving her Morgan mare B</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">And that required the purchase of a harness that would fit him and not break the budget. Luckily, many years ago, Shipshewana Harness landed on my radar, as a great resource. It's located in LaGrange county, Indiana but supplies the needs of horses & horse harness across the country in sizes from miniature horse to the largest draft horse. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">As is happens, LaGrange county is home to many Amish communities who require harness for their everyday driving horses. My new harness is actually used, thoroughly checked and in great condition. It was traded in on the purchase of a new harness and was waiting for someone looking for a secondhand set. That was me! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HJqxNfMr6hg/XwtEFttITfI/AAAAAAAAXmg/R3Aeb8ewzpMDIM6YwjV5jaSPm5kEdL-5gCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200712_072312.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1242" data-original-width="1600" height="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HJqxNfMr6hg/XwtEFttITfI/AAAAAAAAXmg/R3Aeb8ewzpMDIM6YwjV5jaSPm5kEdL-5gCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/20200712_072312.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">With the help of Bob & Brody, owner & harness maker respectively, who patiently answered all my questions and my friend P, who helped me carefully measure a thoroughly bored Stormy, it was determines that this rig would work. Even better is that any necessary adjustments could be easily made by Brody. and of course, they are happy to help with the addition of any custom bling I may be dreaming of. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">In these stressful times, when 2020 is not the year/Summer that anyone had planned, it's good to look further down the road and start on a future adventure now. Change the Plan, not the Goal!</span></div>

So much has been going on the last few weeks but not a lot of impulsion to post. Well, let's get busy & see where I left off on my Unity quilt. The round of shining little stars was the last picture I shared. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The next round was a stop border of turquoise solid batik, before a round of blocks. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The block were pinwheel stars. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">You may notice that I used both navy & cream for the 'background' triangles. This ended up creating an interesting secondary pattern that I wasn't expecting and it diffused the effect of the pinwheels stars. I'll show that round next time.</span><br />
