Peppermint
Swirls Batik
I
love this fabric! It’s a great red
batik. I bought a few yards of it to go
into an ‘as of yet unplanned, unmade Holiday quilt’.
It’s
currently paired with these other Holiday quilt hopefuls.
But I
had a need to use some of it in a non-quilt sewing project. It’s entirely my friend’s fault!
You
see we have a Winter Adult Fun Show coming up at the barn. A bunch of adult riders gather, horseback,
and compete in fun, holiday related timed or skill test events. For example, a past particular favorite was
at the Easter show, when you had to ride your horse from one end of the arena
to the other where there was a yellow Peep candy on the ground & you had to
get you horse to step on it – Peep Stomp, with the fastest time winning. So the show is loads of fun, with a lot of
laughter, friendly competition and good cheer.
Now,
back to why I had a new sewing project.
My friend ordered Santa themed riding gear to outfit her horse – red
saddle cloth with white fur trim, 4 red & white leg wraps, a red &
white breast collar, etc. To top it off,
she will be wearing an Elf costume!
NO, I
will not be wearing a costume but thought a little color never hurt. I can’t let her be the only fashionable one
at the show. On my way home from work, I
stopped at a local tack shop and found a serviceable used white quilted saddle
pad, at less than ½ the cost of a new one.
And
added some Peppermint Swirls stripes.
I’ll
finish it off with Peppermint Swirl binding.
That
should dress things up a bit - kind of subtle splash of Holiday.
Maybe
too subtle - hmmm, they did have a used white crocheted ear bonnet that I could
jazz up….
I hope there will be pictures!
