It's Mystery Quilt Time

Once again, Bonnie Hunter is doing her Winter Mystery Quilt.  This year it was inspired by her trip to Tuscany, Italy and is named "Allietare".  Click HERE to join in the fun.

Bonnie's mystery kicks off on Black Friday, with a clue being revealed on every Friday after that until the final reveal, somewhere around New Year's Day.

For someone like me who designs most all her own quilts - art and traditional, joining in on the mystery is a welcome break.  I still control the size and the colors but the design work and layout is out of my hands.  It's rather a freeing exercise in relinquishing control.

Strips cut & my other fabric choices.
I didn't get started on the first clue until Sunday, which coincided with an episode of Quilt Cam.

Since I am only making a lap size quilt, I got through the required number of HSTs fairly quickly.

Notice the two different sizes? I decided to challenge myself a little more and am also making the same quilt, same colors... in miniature. The studio may be a fairly busy place for the next several weeks.  Click HERE to check out the Linky Party to see how quilters around the world are doing on the Allietare Mystery.

  2. Very pretty colors, I look forward to the progress of putting them all together. Love your machine too, seems that many of us have a featherweight, they are such a great little machine.

  5. LOVE the fact that you are doing a miniature along with your Mystery quilt!! I do a fair number of miniature quilts, but never thought to shrink one of Bonnie's mysteries. Can't WAIT to see how the Purple works as a substitute for the Gray!!

  7. Oh my goodness on mini sizing a Bonnie quilt...she likes the parts small enough as it is. I cannot wait to see how yours comes along...if I was better at math I might try it myself!

  8. Fantastic, Cherry! I thought I was challenging myself making the pieces a bit larger - but making them smaller will be be extra tricky. Love your colours, too.

  10. Love, love, LOVE your colors, Cherry! And I have major featherweight envy over that beauty on your table, too. I stuck with the colors Bonnie is using and have been wishing that I had branched out a bit as I am quite confident in my color choices normally. I'll be interested to see how your quilts work out!
