Last Day of April Recap and 2014 NewFO Link Up

April was a blur & gone in a blink!

Quilt-wise April was okay. Given the fact I started a new job and no longer have days and days to quilt, I'm happy with what I've done!

I am participating in Barbara at Cat Patches 2014 NewFO Challenge. Click here to see everyone's new projects  April NewFO Challenge and Linky Party

My April 2014 quilt stats:

1 Quilt finished - This was a whirlwind project! My entry for the Sauder Village quilt challenge was due this month and as of April 1st, it wasn't even started!   Not only was this a NewFO, it's a FINISH and it took a second place ribbon!

Another Quilt finished. The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts Yurt Challenge was due on May 1st.  I dragged my feet but when push came to shove, I got it done. It's a NewFO and a Finish!

1 new quilt block picked out for LQS (Pieceful Gathering) Daring Downton Debacle Challenge -4th month of a 5 month project using Andover Fabrics's Downton Abbey collection - machine pieced second row completed. It's a NewFO. I'ce drafted the paper foundations for the 'Mary's Block' row, which happens to be identical to the Gentleman's Fancy row I made back in February.  No actual sewing has happened on this row yet, but here is the computer generated picture of quilt progression.

1 quilt in progress - machine quilting projects.
The first is the quilting on the French Braid panels. This was pieced last fall and is a machine quilting NewFO in Progress

And then there is a Not quite but almost Finish from an old UFO - my Sweet Man's 'Grey is not a Color' quilt. March saw the machine quilting under way.

In April, I finished the quilting, but not the binding.  It still needs the binding added.  I should have gotten it done to commemorate a special day for DH - the 2nd Anniversary of his new hip.  Didn't make it but fortunately Sweet Man understood that the frantic need to shop for new and used work clothes was a higher priority.

Part of the issue - what to bind it with?  I don't want to piece it from the batiks used for the blocks and there is not enough of the sashing fabric left.  Hmmm, what's a quilter to do.... go shopping!!  Maybe I'll find something on my trip this weekend that's close to the sashing color.

I have to get busy, find a quilting routine and stick to it for May.  Couple of new pieces to do and some old ones to finish!

If you are keeping track, how did you do for April?
