Last Day of May Recap and 2014 NewFO Link Up

May is in the rear view mirror and before we zip through June, I need to recap and link up.

I am participating in Barbara at Cat Patches 2014 NewFO Challenge. Click here to see everyone's new projects  May NewFO Challenge and Linky Party

My May 2014 quilt stats:

1 Quilt finished - This was a FUN project, a NewFO and a Finish! My entry for the Quilt Alliance Inspired By contest was due by June 1st & I finished with a week to spare!!

Using a circa 1820 quilt of chintz printed with pineapples done in a medallion style as my inspiration.  This award winning quilt is in the New England Quilt Museum permanent collection, made by Sarah Jane Stoller, New York.

This picture shows the detail of the printed fabric better

I decided to show the 'pineapples' two ways - traditional foundation paper pieced blocks and raw edge fused applique.

Pink Pineapple - 16" x 16"

There are hand dyed fabrics from 4 different artists in this piece:  Cherrywood, Ricky Tims, Frieda Anderson & Free Spirit Quilting.  Love the way they all play together so nicely!
I received an email letting me know my quilt had safely arrived in North Carolina.  All entries will be auctioned off in the fall to benefit the Quilt Alliance.

1 new quilt row started for LQS (Pieceful Gathering) Daring Downton Debacle Challenge -4th month(April) of a 5 month project using Andover Fabrics's Downton Abbey collection - machine pieced second row completed. It's a NewFO. I've drafted the paper foundations for the 'Mary's Block' row, which happens to be identical to the Gentleman's Fancy row I made back in February.  Here is the computer generated picture of quilt progression.

And  this is where April's row finished the month of May at - parts and pieces.  May's row hasn't even been started yet. That will be a NewFO for June.

1 quilt in progress - raw edge fused applique.
From the workshop with Frieda Anderson, I have my rendition of 'Field Poppies'.  It's all fused and layered and waiting to be machine quilted. This is a NewFO.

And then there is a Not quite but almost Finish from an old UFO - my Sweet Man's 'Grey is not a Color' quilt. May saw the binding started but not finished.  I swear there is something about this quilt that just doesn't want to be finished.

ARGH!!!  I need to get this bound and out of the studio.  What makes it really bad that it's not yet finished is that I am machine stitching the binding.  Normally, I am a hand finisher when it comes to binding but this quilt will see some heavy use by the DH & the pets.

June is shaping up to be a more quilty month - or at least it needs to be!  As usual, I have some irons in the challenge fire. They keep me going and going and going.

If you are keeping track, how did you do for May?
