Grand Illusion Top Done!!

At Midnight on New Year's Eve, Bonnie Hunter revealed the Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt Finale!  I started piecing my blocks on New Year's Day.

These blocks went together very quickly.

'Wild Cherry' stitched like a dream, though she needs to be cleaned and oiled now.  And my Grand Illusion mystery is a top!!!

I love the quilt but decided to not add any borders, so it will finish at roughly 78" x 78" once it's quilted.  I'm glad that I used constant fabrics for everything but the pinks.

In my stash, I found this to use for the backing.  I'll be including a pieced section in the back made from the planned border units already done.  The binding will be the yellow batik.

The quilt top attracted some extra attention while it was on the design wall.

Which is why it's been taken down, folded with the backing and binding until I get a chance to layer it.

Linking up with Everyone at Quiltville Blog to see how they are doing with their mystery quilts. This was a fun mystery to do!  It's a great way to end the year, relinquish control, enjoy the process, meet quilters from all over the world, learn new things, recharge the creative battery and end up with a great quilt!! I can't wait until next year's mystery!

  2. You did a beautiful job on your GI quilt. Maybe my imagination or optical illusion but your blocks stand out and don't get lost in the sashings. Nice.

  3. I like how your green blends with the aqua and forms a pinwheel with the cornerstones. Well done!
